Rechargeable battery – cost effective or not?

The rechargeable battery – is it cost-effective? Well it all depends on the application. For a high drain portable CD-player then the answer would be yes, they are definitely worth it! The amount of energy throwaway batteries use up would mean having to change them frequently.

However with low drain devices such as portable calculators or wall clocks, sometimes it is cheaper to use ordinary alkaline batteries. They use much less power and what they do use is done so at a much slower rate.

So when you go out to buy batteries, think of what you need them for first.

Wind – the source of so much fun

I’m a big fan of outdoor activities, but in my everyday life I get annoyed by the elements – whether it is snow that prevents me getting to work on time or rain soaking me as I run from meeting to meeting.

But nothing quite annoys me as walking against the wind, balanced at a precarious (almost horizontal) angle. It seems sometimes that the wind changes direction depending on where I want to go.

There is, however, nothing quite as much fun as wind power for leisure time. These days wind is a very useful source of electricity, but it also is perfect for wind surfing, paragliding and a number of other great outdoor activities.
