Preventing damp in houses

Damp can be very damaging to houses. I know this from personal experience, unfortunately – in my last house, we had quite a nasty case of rising damp, which ruined a lot of the interior decoration and also had a bad effect on my health. Thankfully we got it sorted out before any lasting damage was done, but it wasn’t cheap, and it did cause a lot of upheaval for quite some time.

It was caused by a build up of rubble in the wall cavity which ended up bridging the damp proof course that normally stops rising damp from occurring.

Why I was looking at wood loft ladders

I was recently looking at wood loft ladders, because my wife and I are debating whether to convert our attic into a spare bedroom. We often have family members coming to stay, and it would be nice to offer them somewhere a little more luxurious to sleep in. At the moment, they have to make do with our couch, which folds out into a double bed.

We’ve also been to the hardware store to stock up on paint and wallpaper, although it took a little while to decide on a colour scheme. My wife wants the room to be dark, but I would much prefer it to be light and airy. If it’s up to me, it will have a very large dormer window, allowing those who stay there a very nice view across the fields.

My brother has offered to help me with the decorating, so that will be very useful.
