The wedding and the anti mouche man
I met a man at a wedding in France who explained his job involved something called anti-mouche, and I smiled politely and wandered away because I didn’t really understand what he was saying. His English wasn’t particularly good, although I have to admit it was significantly better than my French has ever been.
Later in the evening, I asked my sister what the phrase meant. She is married to a French doctor and has lived in the country for many years. It turns out the man is a pest controller, and anti mouche is specifically a phrase that means fly control. To be fair to him, he did make an attempt to mime the actions of a fly, but it was lost on me.
When I got back to my hotel later that night, I noticed there were two flies in my room. I laughingly reminded myself to tell the receptionist in the morning that they need to speak to an anti mouche expert.
